  • Animation & Visual Effects (Bachelor)
    Our Animation and Visual Effects Bachelor’s Degree is designed to launch students toward a successful career in visual effects for film and television, and emerging applications for 3D visualization and 3D animation. This training prepares students for entry-level positions in the fields of animation, visual effects for film and television, video game production, scientific visualization, and other mediums that require 3D graphics and animation. With two Bay Area schools in San Jose and Emeryville, a curriculum including 3D character and computer animation, animation Maya and VFX is accessible to you wherever you are in California or beyond.

    Students will:

    Learn and practice the fundamentals of art, animation design, and visual effects (VFX).
    Apply skills and knowledge to 3D modeling, character animation, motion capture, character rigging, texture and lighting, compositing and more.
    Gain knowledge based on experience through extensive lab time using multiple hardware platforms and industry standard visual effects software.
    Create a series of projects and assets throughout the program specially developed to demonstrate their knowledge and abilities to potential employers.
    Training includes drawing, storyboarding, 2D animation, video editing, 3D animation, texture and lighting, modeling, character rigging, compositing, rendering, motion capture and dynamic effects.
    In addition to taking General Education classes that are designed to develop essential academic skills for enhanced and continued life-long learning, our students also take courses in our Common Core program. Our Common Core curriculum provides every student with instruction in digital media literacy and 21st century design skills. These multidisciplinary courses combine practical training in digital video, audio, and design with guided development of “soft skills” such as storytelling, critical thinking, collaboration, resume writing, and job interview practice.

  • Digital Filmmaking (Bachelor)
    The Digital Filmmaking program is designed to train students in the fundamental skill set necessary for a career in media production. Training in this program prepares students for entry-level positions and careers in screenwriting, script writing, cinematography, editing, production and directing in broadcast, film, web, advertising, and other industries. Ex’pression College for Digital Arts is your California film and video production school with two convenient Bay Area locations in Emeryville and San Jose.

    Students will:

    Develop and produce motion picture content for any medium such as the big screen, the small screen, handheld devices, the web, video installations, and more.
    Practice competitive skills such as shooting for visual effects, grip and lighting, storytelling techniques, project planning and management, editing, title design, basic music composition, funding, and distribution.
    Take a project from the beginning conceptualization process through to final output.

Our Common Core curriculum provides every student with instruction in digital media literacy and 21st century design skills.   • Game Art & Design (Certificate)
    The Game Art & Design program prepares students for a career in the interactive entertainment industry through immersive training in core-competency areas; including fine arts, theory, and projects that mirror the professional pipeline production environment of a video game designer. Graduates are prepared for entry-level positions in the Game Art & Design industry, as well as in related fields.

    Students will:

    Develop fine art skills and an aesthetic foundation that supports all subsequent work.
    Build skill sets in 2D computer graphics, scripting, 3D modeling, animation, texture, and lighting.
    Design and develop a game level through group work that simulates professional pipeline production techniques.
    Pursue and polish skills in a main focus (Environmental Artists, Texture Artists, Modeler, Level Designer, Character Artists, Etc.).
    Create an individual game level highlighting assets personally produced for a final project.

  • Interactive Audio (Certificate)
    The Interactive Audio program prepares students for entry-level positions in the fast paced Interactive Audio industry such as video games, mobile phone and tablet technology, interactive installations, advanced electronic music production, audio programming, audio for toys, and more. Ex’pression College is an Apple Authorized Training Center and an AVID Certified Pro School

    Students will:

    Be competent in Digital/Analog Music and Post production environments
    Understand audio troubleshooting in advanced production environments
    Be competent in Interactive Audio Production environments
    Be prepared technically and creatively as Multi-Media specialists, and will demonstrate the ability to continue to learn

  • Motion Graphic Design (Certificate)
    Our Motion Graphic Design program provides students with traditional design training in print and web design in addition to learning motion and digital graphic design. Training in this challenging program prepares students for careers as motion graphic designers in broadcast, film, web, advertising and other industries.

    Through our digital graphic design school, students will:

    Learn the fundamentals of graphic design like fine art drawing, typography, concept creation, and color theory and expand upon them for motion graphics used in music videos, title treatments, and other graphics for broadcast, film, and advertising.
    Focuses on process, research, concept and strategy for marketing, advertising and commercial design.
    Develop projects for cross-platform media delivery, including print, broadcast, games, DVDs, the Internet and a variety of interactive screen environments.
    Utilize extensive lab time to become adept in a variety of industry-standard applications.
    Work with real world clients on out-of-class projects on a volunteer basis.
    Developed a portfolio web site and motion graphics demo reel that demonstrates the overall expertise of a trained cross-platform media designer, production artist and art/creative director.

    The Sound Arts program provides students with knowledge and skills to help shape audio design and creation. Training prepares students for entry-level employment in the fields of music production, audio post-production, live sound, computer music production, studio management and sound design. Ex’pression is an Apple Authorized Training Center for Pro Applications and an AVID certified Pro School.

    In our Sound Arts program, students will:

    be able to work in diverse professional situations collaboratively
